Questions at the table

Tile counts, rack fit, mat sizes, cleaning, and who actually takes the money.

How many tiles come in an American set
Our American boxes count 166: thirty six dots, thirty six bams, thirty six cracks, twelve dragons, sixteen winds, sixteen flowers and eight jokers. Two spare blanks ride along in most boxes so a lost tile does not retire the set.
And a Chinese set
Either 144 or 146 depending on the box. The larger faces run 1.65 inches across, the numbered version 1.5 inches. Chinese boxes come without racks because the game stands its tiles on the table rather than seating them.
Do I need racks
For the American game, yes, four of them, and ours arrive with the pushers attached. For the Chinese game they are optional and most players skip them.
Will American racks hold Chinese tiles
Not comfortably. Our racks are cut for a 1.2 inch face. A 1.5 or 1.65 inch tile sits proud of the groove and topples when the rack moves.
What size mat suits a dining table
We make them at 31.5 and 35 inches square. Measure the flat area between the four seats first: the mat wants to sit inside it, not run off the edge, or the pushers catch.
Can the tiles go in the dishwasher
No. Melamine takes hot water badly and the paint in the engraving lifts. A damp cloth and a dry one after is the whole routine.
Does the card come with a set
No. The scoring card for the American game is published by the league that runs it and we do not make or sell one. Our sets hold the tiles, racks, chips, dice and the wind indicator.
Which bag fits a full American set
The large printed bag measures 19.7 by 5.9 by 6.7 inches and swallows the tiles, four racks and the chip tray. The aluminum case is 20.2 by 8.6 by 3.7 inches with two lined trays, and it is the one to pick if the set travels in a car boot.
Who takes the payment
Our retail partner. Every buy button here opens their product page, and the order, the card details and the delivery all live on their side. We never see any of it.
The price here differs from the price there
Theirs is the real one. We copy the figure when we build the page and our partner can move it afterwards without telling us.
