We make one kind of thing

GUSTARIA makes mahjong. Not board games in general, not party supplies with a mahjong box tucked in the corner. Tiles, racks, mats, bags and the small pieces that sit between them. Six parts of one table, and every one of them designed against the others so a set bought a year apart still matches.

The catalog runs to 50 pieces across 6 parts of the table, in both the American and the Chinese game. That is the whole company. When we add something it is because four people at a table kept reaching for it and it was not there.

How the pieces are made

Tiles are melamine, and the faces are engraved and then painted rather than printed on top. Print wears off with washing and handling. Engraving does not, which is why a set that gets played every Thursday still reads clearly after years of it.

Racks are poured acrylic, clear or tinted, long enough for a full American hand and low enough that nobody leans across the table to see past them. Mats are woven fiber over natural rubber, a tenth of an inch thick, so tiles slide without sliding away. Bags get a sleeve for each rack and a zipped pocket for the chips, because loose chips at the bottom of a bag find their way into everything.

This is our catalog, not our checkout. Each piece has its own page here with the measurements, the tile count and what it is for, and the button on that page opens the listing at our retail partner, who holds the stock and takes the order. We write the pages, they run the shop.

Share moments, enjoy life

The line on our boxes is not marketing filler. A mahjong set is furniture for an evening, and the evening is the product. Everything we decide about a tile face, a rack height or a mat size comes back to whether four people can sit down without anybody fussing over the equipment.
